Storage Mezzanines
What are storage mezzanines?
Storage mezzanines are extra floors added between existing floors of a building for the purpose of creating extra storage space. They are typically free standing and not attached to the existing structure.
Storage mezzanines are perhaps the most cost effective way to add extra storage space to existing warehouse or manufacturing facilities. It is often the case that much of the vertical warehouse space remains unutilized following the facilities construction. Typically, as a business grows so does its demand for extra storage. With storage mezzanines, making use of this unused space can be realised quickly without needing to structurally expand or modify the existing facility thus avoiding the associated high costs of a new/rebuild.
Modular by design, mezzanines are therefore very flexible and can be configured in various manners to achieve the maximum benefit.
What can they be used for?
- Storage space
- Office space
- Archive storage
- Conveyor lines
- Pick modules or multi tiered areas
- Work or assembly space
- Retail displays
- Canteen
Advantages of a storage mezzanine
- Faster to construct over expanding existing building
- Easy to assemble with pre-configured parts
- More cost effective over redesign or expansion of existing building or leasing new space
- Flexible - can be moved or resized
- No extra energy costs as new storage space is contained within existing facility
- Rack Supported Mezzanines
Mezzanine decks
Roof deck
Typically consists of a layer of tongue and oriented strand board (OSB) installed over corrugated steel deck. This is generally the most popular deck as it's often the most economical solution, suitable for most storage and office setups. Extra strength can be obtained by adding a further layer of steel tread plate. This will give greater durability to the floor and allow a higher point load. For buildings where fire regulations prohibit the use of OSB, this steel tread can be used directly on top of the corrugated steel deck.
Bar grating
Suitable alternative when factors such as movement of air; transfer of light from overhead and visibility and communication between workers are important. However this flooring is not suitable for storage of small parts.
Specialty grating
The use of attractive, easy to clean, high density composite flooring can be used on top of corrugated steel deck.
Concrete Deck
The strongest flooring and is applied over specially designed steel decking. Added benefit is lower noise levels from overhead.
